623 South Street Philadelphia (215) 627-4224 South Street has its fill of oddities, but paradoxes like this restaurant are few and far between. While the bar area is a living and breathing stereotype of a bar, complete with the huge television screen, the dining room depicts a provincial village somewhere in Medieval Europe. Unfortunately, the acoustics of the bar overcome any semblance of a romantic bistro. The food is eclectic, ranging from the unique to the unfortunate mediocre. Its saving grace calls towards the carefully designed appetizers: the French onion soup is flavorful, dark broth, rich, while the hummus has a cute postmodern architecture (figure that one out). --jen estaris-- Click for Directions - courtesy of maps.yahoo.com |
